Born in 1965, from Effurun, Uvwie LGA, Sonny Ekedayen holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and Masters in Political Economy and Development Studies. A fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, he has worked in various sectors and parts of the country, starting as a Trainee Auditor/Accountant in Jos, Plateau State; to Manager, Management Information Service, Ceramic Manufacturers Plc, Kano; Group Management Accountant, Associated Match Industries, Ibadan; Head, Accounts and Treasury, later Head, Disbursement and Monitoring Department, National Economic Reconstruction Fund. He was at different times Treasurer; Managing Director, BTC Bureau De Change; Head, Industrial Parks, Infrastructural Development and Special Projects, Zonal Manager (Lagos), Regional Head (North), Regional Head (South West), Head, Internal Control and Audit, and Managing Director, Leasing Company of Nigeria, all under the Bank of Industry.

He is reputed for having supported the establishment, growth and expansion of many Small and Medium Enterprises in Delta State through the period of his banking career.
